Lord Shiva has 108 incarnations, The Rudra is among one of them. The Rudra believes to be a destroyer of Sorrow.

LORD SHIVA has created 11 Rudras on the request of Lord Brahma. Lord Shiva has created 11 eternal deities. After this formation, Lord Shiva receives the name "RUDRA" as he has formed the 11 Rudras. Lord Shiva is too kind-hearted, even in its Rudra Avatar. According to Hindu Mythological scriptures, RUDRA is described as an aggressive, violent, destructive, destroyer and yet KIND-NOBLE.

The powerful avatar of Rudra is exceptionally fearless and strong. In this avatar, Lord Shiva has performed TANDAV DANCE, where he is unstoppable, aggressive, uncontrolled, passionate and intense.

Significance of RUDRA ABHISHEK PUJA/ HOMAM

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Rama performed Rudra Abhishek Puja at Rameshwaram for seeking blessings of Lord Shiva for victory over Ravana (while he was going to rescue Mata Sita from Lankapati Ravana). Rudra Abhishek means a holy bath of Shiv Lingam with a sacred mixture of Milk, Ghee, Gangajal, Honey, Curd, Belpatra, Dhatoora, Sandal wood paste, Aromatic oils, etc.

It is believed that RUDRA ABHISHEK PUJA blessed the devotee with prosperity, good health, well being, and also enlightenment for religion and spirituality. Rudra Abhishek is a bathing and cleaning process of Shiv Linglam with scared mixture and ingredients (each of them has a specific significance) of Holy Puja and continues recitation of Vedic Mantra- Rudra Sukhta.

The best time to perform Rudra Abhishek Puja is the holy month "Shravan Maas", which is dear to Lord Shiva and its devotee. In the Shravan Maas, the most auspicious day is "Maha Shivratri".
